Are you living your dream now?

So this question might be a head-scratcher for some, since many of us envision a different scenario than the one we presently reside in. The reason this question is so important is because the dream journey is an ongoing one. We rarely hit a “finish line” where all our hopes and dreams suddenly become ours to have and to hold. We evolve into that dream place, so to speak; and getting there should really be half the fun. If you are someone who has created a vision board for yourself, or pinned some of these things on Pinterest (my go-to), you are on your way! Getting some specifics in mind helps to define the direction in order to navigate the dream ship through life’s unpredictable waters.

My dream is to write and make art full time; and to help others realize their creative potential in order for them to become their best selves. The way that I do this is to “self sculpt”. It begins by taking inventory of the experiences I have gained in my 51 years, and to acknowledge how those experiences have shaped me thus far. At times, it can feel like we are still just a ball of clay; but, as time passes and we seek out ways to learn and stoke our creative embers, we start to see direction taking its form. Add some motivation, dedication and perspiration, and we begin to feel that clay wheel spinning! It wasn’t that long ago when I realized that looking TOO far ahead was impacting my creativity in a negative way. I had forgotten how to enjoy the journey of life. When I finally felt the click of this realization, I began to feel a creative big boom! Since then, I have created piles of art, I am writing more often, and I am continually seeking out ways to learn from others. I am taking action, and, I. am. having. FUN.

Last week, I signed up for the Women in Publishing Summit 2021 Conference; and already, I have made dozens of new connections, and had a chance to speak directly with the CEO of a publishing company who I am making plans to work with. This is the time. NOW. It starts with just sitting down and being creative, without censoring. Sure, you might not like what you create right away, but creativity needs to be worked like any other muscle. Two weeks ago, I made a commitment to get more friendly with watercolor, since it is a medium which wasn’t my comfortable go-to. A former colleague set up a cool postcard exchange of original art created by each member, which would be sent via US Mail to an assigned recipient. A great way to keep in touch during a pandemic, and who doesn’t love to get artsy mail? It also was the perfect excuse to practice some watercolor techniques. Here is what’s going out in the mail tomorrow:

An assortment of subjects, just letting creativity drive the bus!

This was an absolute blast, and SO relaxing! In the time I was working on each, I had other creative ideas coming through; almost as though I had literally tapped into a well. The goal wasn’t to judge it, just to do it; and through it all, I realized that I AM living my dream here and now. I am still traveling on the road to being my best self; but I have already begun manifesting the rewards I’ve always wanted. I am finding true happiness in who I am, the decisions I make, and the people who are in my “tribe”; who have been so inspirational just by being real, respectful and oh, so kind!

Go make art; and while you’re at it, SHARE it with others! Have a great week!
